Good bye Critical Literacy!

You have almost completed this semester, so how do you view Critical Literacy now? If you have any comments and suggestions, please do as it helps for the betterment of the course as a whole.

Now, it is stated in the college academic calendar that we are in week 12. This means final exam is just around the corner. Meanwhile these few weeks are hectic weeks for all the students. There are so many assignments and assessments which need to be fulfilled by us. However, Madam Zariati, my beloved lecturer used to tell my classmates and me that all these are the beauty of study. So, I decided to believe in her and enjoy my life as a student. Talking about Critical Literacy subject, now my journey for this subject is going to end. This is because this subject has no final exam.

After learning this subject for one semester, I think this subject is a very interesting and beneficial subject to learn. It teaches me to think critically while trying to interpret and understand other’s point of view. Besides, I also learn that we need strong evidence when we want to tell our opinion to the others. Without it our opinion will just remain as opinion and cannot be reliable. Furthermore, this subject also has boosted my confidence to be a good presenter. This is because, every week we are required to present our finding on the rule of ten based of the given article. Actually, this task is a practice for us before we do our VIVA presentation. Oh! I’m so nervous every time I think of my VIVA presentation. I hope everyone can pray for me.

Talking about the way to improve this subject, I think the coordinator and the other lecturers have done very well. So, there is no major changes that need to be done. I have only one suggestion for the improvement of this subject. In my opinion, the lecturers should allocate specific and fix time in the time table for each students to come for consultation session. Then, make it compulsory for all students to follow the time table. This is to help those students who are clueless yet don’t want to meet and ask the lecturers for help. The most suitable time for this compulsory consultation session may be two weeks before the submission date. Hopefully this suggestion can help the students to score a higher mark.

As a conclusion, I really enjoy my journey to the end of this subject. Learning this subject has give me a new experience. I hope I can score high mark for this subject. I have done my very best for this subject and now I left the rest to God. Once again, I really hope everyone can pray for my success. Thank you for all your kindness! I will pray for everyone’s happiness. Goodbye…

World is a Stage

Proposition: Life is a mere illusion and just like the world is a stage as we used it as a stepping stone for a showcase of our talents. Provide at least two premises or counter arguments for the proposition.

Some people think that life is a mere illusion and just like the world is a stage as we used it as a stepping stone for a showcase of our talent. This means that our life is just like the drama that we watch in the television. Just like we watch different scenes in the drama, we also have different events and incidents that happen in our life.  It is full with the colours of life. Sometime we are happy, sad, excited, bored, and angry. In my point of view, I am totally agreed with this opinion. This world is just a stage and we are the actors.

The most obvious similarity between the stage and our real world is people treat us based on our achievement. In the drama, a well performed role no matter how small it is it will be well appreciated by the audience. The excellent actors will get many awards and gain more popularity. The same goes in our real world. According to Gjakovski (2016), “It rarely occurs to people to perform good deeds with good intentions without the need to get something in return. They refuse to accept the fact that making good deed itself provides the feeling of self-worth. When we are performing our job very well with devotion and honesty, we will get praise, love, respect and fame. So, this is why I am saying that this world is just like a stage. Everyone wants to do well in life for their own satisfaction and to get recognition from the others.

Next, the similarity between the stage and the world is the successful of every character or person is decided by himself. In the drama, the story line and the characteristics of the characters have been provided by the director. However, the responsibility to make the character and the drama become successful lies on the actors shoulder. A drama will only become successful when all the actors performed their role very well. The same situation happens in our daily life. Although our life has been plan by God, our successful in this world depend on ourselves. According to Chang (2013), “The future is fluid-like, not stone-like. In other words, the future is not written in stone.” This tells us that we can change our future. If we are determine to gain success in our life we will become a successful person. We can simply become a great engineer, doctor, lawyer or even the best leader in the world. It is all depends on us!

All in all, I am really agree with the saying of life is a mere illusion and just like the world is a stage as we used it as a stepping stone for a showcase of our talents. This is because, there are so many similarity between the stage and the real world. We ourself can see the similarity in our daily life.

My view on Prof Dr. Mohamad Tajudin Mohamad Rasdi

“The latest incident about BFM newsreader being threatened with death, rape, and being burnt alive by those I assume to be Malay-Muslim netizens brings forth serious questions for this country. Is this country safe for our children to live in? If a simple point is raised against such issues such as Hudud or even such issues as democracy and clean election can produce outburst of murder, rape and burning people alive, what does it say about our country, its citizens and our leadership?”… Prof Dr. Mohamad Tajuddin Mohamad Rasdi.
(Speak Up, The Sun, March 26, 2015)

·         How do you view above statements?

In my point of view, everyone in our country should take note with the statement makes by Prof Dr. Mohamad Tajuddin Mohamad Rasdi. This is the right time for all of us to open our eyes and think critically how to overcome this issue. Nowadays, everyone is very loud in sharing his or her point of view. This situation has its own pros but also may bring major problem in certain situation. Then, people nowadays also are easily to get angry and finger point to each other. They never care for the others thought and feeling. These types of peopl think that they are always right. To share my view on Prof Dr. Mohamad Tajuddin Mohammad Rasdi statement, I think both sides, the girl named Aishah and the netizens are at fault.

At the first place, I think aishah should never come up with a controversial perception and view on sensitive issue. As everyone know, Hudud has been a very controversial topic in Malaysia. Everyone has their own view and belief on this issue. So, she have to respect everyone’s thought and opinion. She should never come up with negative comments that may trigger and give opportunity for the others to attack her. It never brings any benefit to anyone. Moreover, now we are living in a country with the citizens who are overly sensitive and emotional. Every sensitive issue that have being brought up will really affect them emotionally. So, the best solution to overcome this issue maybe just to remain silence and only share our thought when there is a right time.

Next, in my opinion I think that the netizen also are at fault. They have being overly sensitive and emotional. How can they come up with such wicked comments for a girl who is just sharing her thought? Some of the netizens may think that Aishah had been overboard and should be give some lessons. But that’s not the ticket for them to give her such terrible comments. There are so many other ways that they can do. Moreover, this case also may affect our country’s reputation. People from the other country would assume that we are a group of people who love to involve in crime, always involve in illegal demonstration and regularly involve in strikes. To make the situation become worst they make look at us as a group of terrorist. I’m very sure that everyone of us will never be happy to be recognized as a terrorist.

All in all, everyone should take this issue seriously. We should take an effective solution in order to solve this problem. This situation should be handled immediately. This is not just for the sake of us but also for the sake of our next generations.  Let’s us together improve our country’s reputation. However, no matter how our country is I am still proud to be a Malaysian. I love Malaysia!

Women shouldn't be behind the wheel

Stereotyping is exaggerated generalization associated with a categorizing system, they go beyond the facts at hand and make claims that usually have no valid basis. However, it is also something that most people fid difficult to avoid from doing. So, explore your sense of tendency to make generalizations by expanding the following statement. Women shouldn’t be behind the wheel...

In Saudi Arabia, women are not allowed to drive. There is no official law which saying that women in that country are prohibit from driving. However, deeply held religious beliefs prohibit it. In my point of view, I think that women should not be behind the wheel. This is because, women who can drive and have a driving license may bring many implications not just for themselves but also to the others.

One of the problems of woman having a driving license is they may neglect their responsibilities to their family. Every woman especially those who are married are playing a very important role in the family. They have to take care of the house chores, take care of their children and prepare all the needs of her husband. However, if they have a driving license they will start to go out and do activities. This will affect their performances as a wife and a mother. Imagine that a cheerful child is coming home after spending half of the day at the school. She has a lot of stories to tell her mother. However, her mother is not at home as she is busy doing activities with her friends. Of course this poor child will feel very disappointed. But, this situation will never happen to a family who has a mother with no driving license. She will just stay in the house waiting for her beloved children and husband as she is clueless about driving. So, she will only go out with her family. This makes a happy family.

Besides, a woman who has a driving license also will tend to become overly independent. This is because, when a woman knows how to drive any vehicles, she manages to move from one place to another without any help from the others. For example, a woman can simply drive a car to go to university, work or even to the shopping malls by herself. This situation will reduce the quality time that she may has with her beloved one such as her father or her husband. In contrast to that, woman can spend more of their time with her beloved if she travels in the same car with their family to go anywhere and everywhere. They may share stories and jokes all the way to their destination. This can help to strengthen the relationship between her family members and her. However, if woman has a driving license she will lose this precious opportunity.

All in all, I am absolutely agreed that women shouldn’t be behind the wheel because there are so much disadvantages of woman having a driving license. Moreover, the effects will not only affect themselves but also the others. So, every woman should never have a driving license. It will only bring more problems than benefits to everyone.

Hello Critical Literacy

You heard comments and maybe grievances from your seniors about Critical Literacy, but what is/are your expectation (s) or hope for this subject as you are just started.

Since I am in semester 1, I have heard a lot about Critical Literacy subject from the seniors and even the lecturers. Some of them claimed that Critical Literacy is one of the toughest subjects for Diploma in English Communication program. It is as critical as the title given to this subject which is Critical Literacy.  However, there are also those who are saying that critical literacy subject is not as though as all the rumours spread. One of my seniors was telling me that the most important tip to excel in this subject is never procrastinate. NEVER!!! Procrastinate will never work for this subject. It will only bring problems for the students. In contrast to that, if we started earlier, we may score better in this subject.

After heard all these comments, I do feel nervous to learn this subject but I think I   should not jump into conclusion. I don’t want to start entering the class with the negative mind set saying that Critical Literacy is a difficult subject. I really expect a fresh start for this subject. After attend the first class and given a brief explanation about this subject by my beloved lecturer, I started to fall in love with this subject. My lecturer also stated that the numbers of students who get A for this subject are getting higher for every semester. This makes me feel more confident and motivated to learn and excel in this subject.

For this Critical Literacy subject I hope that I can survive and get an A. I really hope that I can understand this subject so that I manage to fulfil all the assessments very well. Besides, I also hope that I can manage my schedule wisely so that I will never procrastinate to do my assignments. I am very afraid to procrastinate after given a warning by my senior. I really want to do well in this subject.

All in all, I am excited to continue my journey to the end of this subject. I am just started and I know that there are so many things that I have to learn and master for this subject. However, I will do my very best and I hope all of you will also pray for my success. Thank you guys.
